Bonn, 14 February 2024 – PD Dr. Daniel Paech*, Managing Senior Physician at the Department of Neuroradiology of University Hospital Bonn (Universitätsklinikum Bonn), will start a professorship position at the renowned Harvard Medical School starting in February 2024. In addition to his medical role in neuroradiology, he will work at Mass General Brigham in Boston as director of the ultra-high-field MRI program in radiology and continue to research the clinical benefits of new MR techniques and AI-supported analyses.

Dr. Paech studied Physics and Medicine at the German universities of Karlsruhe, Heidelberg and the Sorbonne University in Paris. His clinical specialty is neuroradiology. His scientific focus is on the development and clinical translation of new MRI methods, particularly at high magnetic field strengths. “Boston offers excellent opportunities thanks to the outstanding technical infrastructure at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Mass General Hospital, not to mention all the potential research partners,” says Dr. Paech.

“The switch to Harvard Medical School will also open up exciting opportunities for medical collaboration. The goal is to create a platform that supports the exchange of expertise, the promotion of research collaboration and the continued development of existing transatlantic networks,” says Prof. Alexander Radbruch, Director of the Department of Neuroradiology at University Hospital Bonn. University Hospital Bonn and the Faculty of Medicine have invested enormous resources in recent years to systematically promote the hospital’s innovative neuroimaging. And it’s starting to pay off.

“We want to attract the best minds to our field. Early networking with renowned universities can help make that happen. The exchange between Bonn and Harvard is therefore a stroke of good luck for us,” emphasizes Prof. Radbruch.

The scientific collaboration between Dr. Paech and Prof. Radbruch has been ongoing for many years. Daniel Paech began his scientific career with Alexander Radbruch in 2012 as a doctoral student at Heidelberg University and the German Cancer Research Center. “It was soon clear that Daniel Paech had an outstanding research career ahead of him,” Prof. Radbruch summarizes. In 2021, PD Dr. Paech succeeded Prof. Radbruch as Managing Senior Physician at the newly founded Department of Neuroradiology at University Hospital Bonn, where he was responsible for setting up the MRI imaging department.
