Alfred Rosen was a former player for Borussia Mönchengladbach. On December 11, 1941, he was deported from Mönchengladbach together with his wife and daughter on the collective transport from Düsseldorf to Riga. He was murdered in the Riga-Salaspils concentration camp in January 1942.
Ms. Sondra Mc Donald Stern, a descendant of Alfred Rosen in the USA, also contributed pictures and text material about his story. Two roll-ups were created by 28.08.23 to commemorate the fate of Mr. Alfred Rosen. In addition, the artist Gunter Demnig laid three stones in front of house number 360 in Hindenburgstraße on 14.12.23 in memory of Alfred, Frieda and Edith Rosen. Borussia Mönchengladbach sponsored the laying of these stumbling stones. Students of the BKVGS made a film of the laying of the Stumbling Stones for the Rosen family’s survivors in the USA.
From 09.02.2024 to 13.02.2024, four members of the BKVGS-UNESCO team traveled to New York. On February 11, 2024, they met Ms. Sondra Mc Donald Stern in Albany (217 km from New York) to hand over the film about the laying of the stumbling stone, a letter from the Lord Mayor Felix Heinrichs and three illustrated books of the city of Mönchengladbach. The team also used the trip to visit some of the highlights of New York City, e.g. the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, the Brooklyn Bridge, Wall Street, Central Park and much more…
