The anniversary was celebrated extensively with the official delegation from Arlington and representatives of the city of Aachen, many long-standing friends and past exchange program participants, a group of cyclists (just back from this year’s tour in Provence), members of both fire departments, association members, and Aachen hosts.

30 Years Aachen & Arlington City Partnership

The opening dinner at the Ratskeller with the Aachen association board was followed by the reception of guests in the ‘Weißen Saal’ with Mayor Norbert Plum the next day. Here, the city was presented with the flag featuring Arlington’s new logo. The formal ceremony took place the following day in the Coronation Hall of the Town Hall, attended by the U.S. Consul General, Mrs. Pauline Kao. This was followed by a post-celebration lunch hosted by the association. In addition, there were panel discussions in various fields, museum tours, and, finally, the opportunity for a joint viewing of the US-Germany soccer match. The fact that the match ended with a 3-1 victory for ‘us’ couldn’t overshadow the strong friendships.
