30 Years of Friendship: Aachen-Arlington Sister City Partnership Celebrates Anniversary

The sister city partnership between Aachen and Arlington, Virginia, has now existed for over 30 years. This milestone was celebrated appropriately on both sides of the Atlantic.

The Aachen celebration for the anniversary took place in October 2023 in the Coronation Hall of the Town Hall. A nine-member delegation from Arlington joined local guests. The visitors from the U.S. enjoyed a welcome dinner in the Ratskeller, a city tour, discussions with partners from the city administration and the university, excursions in the surrounding area, and ample time with friends in Aachen.

The return visit to Arlington occurred in April 2024. The delegation from Aachen enjoyed exciting tours in Arlington and Washington, D.C., a meeting with the County Board, a welcome party, and a farewell breakfast. The highlight was the 30-year celebration in the “Top of the Town” hall with a view over Washington and Arlington.

Meeting friends and long-time companions in person is always a joy. We look forward to the next 30 years!
