On Tuesday evening, former NRW Interior Minister Ingo Wolf (FDP) emphasized the importance of democracy at the AmerikaHaus NRW celebration in Cologne. He made it clear that democracy cannot be taken for granted, pointing out that only 45 percent of the world’s states are democracies, of which only about six percent are considered fully democratic. Wolf is chairman of the board of AmerikaHaus NRW, which promotes German-American relations throughout North Rhine-Westphalia. Cologne Mayor Henriette Reker also emphasized the importance of cooperation between Germany and the U.S., especially in light of the current conflict in Ukraine.
The event had a dress code based on the colors of the U.S. flag: blue, white, and red.
The AmerikaHaus NRW is deeply committed to fostering transatlantic friendship, with a special focus on the next generation. Various events, receptions, concerts and exhibitions will be held as part of the NRW-USA Year.
