Minister Neubaur: Working together on the challenges of transformation.

The United States of America has been an important value and economic partner of North Rhine-Westphalia for around 340 years. The state government wants to deepen this partnership and has therefore initiated an NRW-USA year with numerous transatlantic activities under the motto “A perfect match!”.

This also includes the economic-political partnership, which is to be further strengthened with the “NRW-USA Summit”. At today’s event in Düsseldorf, over 200 participants from business, companies and associations will discuss the potential of economic cooperation with US partners and business opportunities on both sides of the Atlantic.

Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Protection Mona Neubaur: “North Rhine-Westphalia and the USA have been working together in a spirit of trust for a long time, particularly in the areas of business, technology and climate protection. Most German exports go to the USA, German companies are the third largest foreign employer in the USA. And the interest of American global corporations in North Rhine-Westphalia is growing, as we can see from the establishment of Microsoft in the Rhineland region, among other things. With the NRW-USA Summit, we want to further advance economic cooperation in the areas of sustainable economic transformation and innovation.”

US Consul General Pauline Kao: “The great relevance of transatlantic relations is particularly evident in the economy – cooperation between North Rhine-Westphalia and the United States is not only important in many different industries, it also affects established companies as well as start-ups. At the NRW-USA Summit, all relevant players were able to engage in targeted dialogue and learn from each other – and together take a look into the future of our cooperation.”

Christian Kullmann, Chairman of the Executive Board of Evonik Industries AG, and Christin Schack, Vice President and Managing Director Central Europe of 3M Deutschland GmbH, will also take part in the event. A key topic of discussion will be the economic policy requirements for the further development of the international competitiveness of North Rhine-Westphalia as a business location and the question of what both countries can learn from each other, for example in terms of transformation capability and speed.

The NRW-USA Summit is organised by the NRW Ministry of Economic Affairs together with the IHK Düsseldorf, NRW.GlobalBusiness and NRW.BANK, supported by the US Consulate General in Düsseldorf and the American Chamber of Commerce.
