Study Visit: Global Engineering Trek in Germany

They visited the MEET Battery Research Center (Münster Electrochemical Energy Technology), one of Germany’s leading battery research facilities, where approximately 150 scientists are dedicated to sustainable battery research (with a current focus on lithium-ion batteries). During their visit, they gained insights into the entire battery value chain, from analytics and the development of new or improved materials to battery cell manufacturing and the recycling of energy storage devices. Researchers from the field of industrial chemistry also highlighted various aspects of application, including economic viability, environmental impact, and societal implications.

The students showed great interest in joint excursions to BASF Coatings and Evonik, where the companies’ sustainability strategies were presented and discussed.

On a concluding bike tour through Münster with the “Leezen Heroes,” various stops were made to explore topics related to climate protection, transportation concepts, alternative housing models, and community engagement. The students were particularly impressed by the newly designed, sustainable Meranti Hall at Münster Zoo. And what was the most enjoyable part of the visit? Riding bicycles, of course!
