Emerging after the end of World War II, the bloc confrontation and the Kosovo War in the second half of the 20th century, the September 11, 2001 attacks, as well as the current Russian aggression in Ukraine, exemplify the challenging and geopolitically significant decades of the alliance. Furthermore, NATO has had to adapt to increasingly interconnected global structures and more complex defense policy conditions. Technological advancements and resilience against hybrid threats from both state and non-state actors require a broader and multi-layered approach by the alliance.

The Henry Kissinger Chair for Security and Strategic Research at the Center for Advanced Security, Strategic, and Integration Studies (CASSIS) of the University of Bonn, together with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, is organizing the lecture series “75 Years of NATO.” We look forward to lectures from German and international experts from academia and practice, focusing on the history of the alliance, its institutional and defense policy challenges, and its future prospects.

You are cordially invited to attend.
