Global Upheaval and Partisan Divisions

We cordially invite you to a discussion on:

“Global Upheaval and Partisan Divisions: How Do We Tackle the Challenges of Our Time Together?”with our bipartisan duo of former Members of the U.S. Congress, Democrat Val Demings from Florida and Republican Luke Messer from Indiana. We will discuss the current political situation in the United States and its implications for the transatlantic partnership. The discussion will be moderated by Florian Bauer, Phoenix TV.

Val Demings
Valdez Venita “Val” Demings served in the U.S. House of Representatives for Florida’s 10th District from 2017-2023. In 2022, she was the Democratic candidate from Florida for the U.S. Senate, but lost in the general election to incumbent Marco Rubio. Demings was born in Jacksonville, Florida, and graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in criminology in 1979. Demings began her career as a social worker in Jacksonville. In 1983, she graduated from the police academy of the Orlando Police Department and was hired as a patrol officer. She was appointed chief of police in December 2007, the first woman to lead the department, and served until her retirement in June 2011.

Luke Messer
Messer served three terms as U.S. Congressman for Indiana’s 6th Congressional District from 2013 to 2019. He was the chairman of the Republican Policy Committee for four years where he led hearings on Conservative Clean Energy Agenda, Women in the 21st Century Workforce and others. From 2003 to 2006 he served at the Indiana House of Representatives. Messer currently is a principal at Bose Public Affairs Group, where he counsels clients on state and federal policy matters in Indiana and in Washington, D.C.

The discussion will be held in English and is free of charge.
