Spring Concert
We are a 65-member symphonic wind orchestra from Balve-Garbeck performing at the highest level.
Our principal conductor, Scott Lawton, hails from Pennsylvania, USA. He currently serves as the chief conductor of the North Rhine-Westphalia State Police Orchestra and participated in this capacity at the kickoff event of the “NRW-USA Year” on June 22, 2023, in Düsseldorf, as part of the State Chancellery’s inaugural celebration.
Inspired by the speeches of the U.S. Ambassador Amy Gutman, U.S. Consul General Pauline Kao, Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst, and Chief of the State Chancellery Nathanael Liminski, Scott Lawton has spent the past months composing a musical interpretation of the historic voyage from 1683. He found this story to be captivating and fitting for a musical portrayal.
The result, “The Voyage of the Concord – the Beginning of a Complex and Profound Friendship,” a composition for a large symphonic wind orchestra, choir, and narrator, will have its world premiere during our spring concert on March 16, 2024. We would be delighted to present this piece in the spirit of the “NRW-USA Year.” Within the composition, music alternates with spoken and sung texts. The sung parts represent the migrating Mennonite community from Krefeld, which is why Scott Lawton draws from the 23rd Psalm, “The Lord is my shepherd.” The spoken text also provides essential information about the Concord’s voyage and subsequent developments.
Regular admission is €8, and reduced admission is €4.
