Caring for people and providing them with the best possible support in their recovery or in dealing with an illness are common motivations for entering the nursing profession. How this aspiration can be combined with optimal working conditions is a central question of the international magnet hospital concept. This concept emerged in the USA during a crisis in the healthcare system in the 1980s. At that time, hospitals had major problems filling vacant nursing positions and retaining qualified staff. However, some hospitals acted like a magnet for nurses. What constitutes these magnetic forces has been and continues to be the subject of extensive scientific research and forms the basis of the magnet concept.
For more than three years, Bonn University Hospital has had the opportunity to take part in the international Magnet4Europe study, which is investigating the transfer of this US concept to European conditions. One highlight to date is our twinning partnership with the Magnet-certified OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, USA. Last year, we had the honor of visiting our colleagues in Peoria. This year, we are especially looking forward to welcoming our partners from the USA to Bonn.
With this hybrid congress format as part of the festivities celebrating 340 years of friendship between the USA and NRW, we would like to give you an insight into our twinning partnership, the US healthcare system and the inspiring work of a magnet clinic.
We look forward to exchanging ideas with you!
Participation in the event is free of charge, prior registration is not necessary. You can take part on site in Bonn or online.
