The Digital Week Dortmund 2023, or #diwodo, enriched the #NRW location with a wealth of exciting events and innovations. From 25 to 30 September, the digital community gathered in Dortmund to explore the latest trends and developments in the digital world. Dortmund’s partner city Pittsburgh was also present with a delegation that gained exciting insights into innovations and R&D projects at the TU Dortmund and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts. Dortmund and Pittsburgh have been linked by a long-standing partnership since the early 2000s. Both cities changed from industrial to high-tech locations, with topics such as AI, robotics, IT and biotechnology. The partnership was gradually expanded and sealed in 2022 with a “Memorandum of Understanding” for an innovation and climate partnership.

Another DiWoDo highlight: the “Transatlantic Fireside Chat” on “Real-Word Innovations of AI” with Dr Rebecca Nugent (Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh), Dr Eva Schmidt and Dr Sebastian Buschjäger (Lamarr Institute for Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, Dortmund). They discussed the opportunities and risks of the technology, as well as opportunities for transatlantic exchange. We look forward to the next #DiWoDo and what exciting developments the future will bring. Until then, we can take inspiration from the inspiring insights and ideas of Digital Week Dortmund 2023 and work to drive digital transformation forward.
