On the occasion of a joint symposium on Smart Materials with Northwestern University (NU), coordinated by Prof. Strassert (University of Münster, Inorganic Chemistry), Prof. Grayson, and Prof. Gianneschi (NU, Nanoscience), they will be visiting the prestigious university in Evanston on August 29th and 30th. The University of Münster maintains research contacts with Northwestern University in various disciplines. The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two universities will initiate further steps in future collaboration. A joint graduate college in the field of advanced materials is currently being developed.
The visit to the Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) in Lemont on August 30th involves familiarization with the entire facility and exchanges between representatives of the respective institutions. A focus will be on battery research, which benefits from the longstanding collaboration between Prof. Winter, the Scientific Director of MEET (Münster Electrochemical Energy Technology), and ANL, one of the oldest and largest research institutes under the United States Department of Energy (DoE). Prof. Winter will accompany the delegation in Lemont and Chicago.
On September 1st, a MoU will also be signed at the University of Chicago to support collaboration, particularly between the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering and MEET. Preliminary discussions with other institutes are also on the agenda.
Prior to this (August 25th-27th), Rector Wessels and Vice Rector Stoll participated in the GAIN Annual Conference in Boston, where they contributed to a workshop on the topic “Universities and Non-University Research Institutions: Distinction & Collaboration.”
