The exchange of experts focuses on the future topics of energy and mobility transition in connection with sustainable urban development. The program includes talks on the topic of battery research, including a visit to the MEET research center of the Westfälischen Wilhelmsuniversität (WWU) and the new battery research factory. The IHK Nord Westfalen provides information on the energy region of Münsterland. On the topic of housing and district development, the city of Münster presents the transformation of the port area. In preparation for the joint “International Transportation Summit – PEDAL” that will take place in Fresno in October, the so-called Mobility Day will take place on August 22.

The cities inform each other about the challenges and opportunities of their strategic mobility concepts. Münster as an excellent bicycle city presents the integration of cycling into traffic planning, connection to local and long-distance public transport as well as economic innovation projects. Mayor Markus Lewe invites Mayor Jerry Dyer and US Consul General Pauline Kao to a short bike ride along the promenade. A video message will be recorded, which will be broadcast as a welcome message at the opening of the summit in Fresno. In the evening, Mayor Lewe will welcome the consul general and the Fresno delegation in the town hall for a networking meeting on “Transatlantic Urban Diplomacy Münster – Fresno”. The meeting will also include representatives from the administration, economy and science of the city of Münster, who maintain close relations with the partner city and other US regions.
