Panel discussion with
Pauline A. Kao, US Consul General in Düsseldorf
Prof. Dr. Christoph Bieber, Center for Advanced Internet Studies
and Marlin Mayer, Technical University of Dortmund
moderated by Thorsten Kabitz, Editor-in-Chief of Radio RSG

Tuesday, April 23, 2024 | 6:30 p.m. | Bergische VHS | Auer Schulstraße 20 | 42103 Wuppertal
and via livestream on Zoom

Joe Biden’s voice urging thousands of voters in New Hampshire not to participate in the primaries. Images of Donald Trump surrounded by black supporters. What do both cases have in common? They are forgeries created by artificial intelligence (AI). With the rapid development of AI, such fakes can be produced with less effort and expertise, making it increasingly difficult to identify artificially generated content as such. Especially in the run-up to significant elections, such as those in 2024 in the USA and many other places, AI can massively contribute to the spread of disinformation and simplify the manipulation of opinion-forming processes.
How exactly is AI already being used in politics and election campaigns, and what future developments are emerging? What are the effects of the spread of disinformation and conspiracy narratives on democracy? How can the danger posed by AI-generated misinformation be contained, and what can we all do to avoid falling for fakes?

The event will be held in German.
Please register bindingly via Eventbrite. If you are unable to attend in person, you can also follow the event via livestream on Zoom.
